Trainers Educators Facilitators
Are you a trainer, group facilitator or deliver counselling training programmes and interested incorporating outdoor therapy ideas, principles and theory in to a programme? I have been working outdoors with groups and individuals since 2007. I offer talks, presentations and sessions on this experience and of working outdoors therapeutically.
Initially trained in horticultural therapy, I worked with a local community to convert a rented field to allotments and created a garden for health and well-being (Holme Valley Gardening Network, Wooldale Community Garden) . I co-founded a social enterprise (Growing Works) offering outdoor therapeutic activities for people with mental health needs and families of children with disabilities.
During this time I became more interested in working with individuals and did further training in counselling and taking therapy outdoors. I volunteered at the Huddersfield Women Centre on their outdoor growing space and worked with women in crisis.
I belong to an outdoor therapy supervision group meeting in each season in Shining Cliff woods in Derbyshire to support this work.
General ideas for sessions might include:
- The therapeutic principles of outdoor work
- The benefits for clients and therapists
- Incorporating nature and the outdoor environment into current practice
- The challenges and considerations in working outdoors
These sessions can be delivered indoors or in an outdoor space
